CNBC Interview: Meeting US Solar Market Demands for Polysilicon

More Than 3x Polysilicon Needed for Entire US Market Outside Xinjiang

CNBC’s Martin Soong and Sri Jegarajah interviewed CEA’s Founder and CEO, Andy Klump, on sourcing polysilicon, how traceability audits can help, and meeting the US market demands.

Video Transcript:

Soong: This whole thing is about solar and Xinjiang must come up almost all the time. What do you tell folks?

Klump: Absolutely. Well, first of all, the world needs more solar. So, there is absolutely a solution, and corporate buyers and developers of solar assets are in control of their own destiny. They can request traceability audits, and the good news is there is more than 3 times the amount of polysilicon needed for the entire US market in regions outside of Xinjiang. So, the needs of the US market can be met very easily with clear traceability audits from firms like CEA.

Soong: Okay, so here’s the thing you know when you talk about, traceability and supply chain, and provenance, etc.? How easy or hard is it to trace this back to make sure it does not come from a place like, let’s say Xinjiang, and comes from you know the other half, that is.

Klump: Absolutely, so, once again, there are large manufacturers who have very complex and extremely knowledgeable supply chain systems that track where all their products are coming from. And they’ve been in place for many, many years. So, what CEA does, once again, with 115 inspectors and engineers in 13 countries globally, we can inspect the various aspects of the supply chain including polysilicon. And so, there are 3rd parties that can perform this work and that basically reveals the case that we’re looking for a clear provenance that can be done by firms like ourselves.
